Xigera Safari Lodge is a luxury safari lodge in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a World Heritage Site and one of the most biodiverse and beautiful places on Earth. The lodge is named after the Pied Kingfisher that inhabits the watery channels of the Moremi Game Reserve, where the lodge is located. Xigera offers 12 spacious suites, each individually designed and showcasing an extraordinary collection of pan-African art and design. The lodge also features a spa, a gym, a pool, a boma, a lounge, a bar and a restaurant, all with stunning views over the floodplains. Sustainability
Xigera is committed to conserving and celebrating the Okavango Delta and its wildlife. The lodge is solar-powered and uses eco-friendly materials and products wherever possible. It also supports local communities and initiatives through various projects, such as providing scholarships, creating employment opportunities, sponsoring conservation research and donating to anti-poaching efforts. Xigera also aims to educate and inspire its guests about the importance of protecting this fragile ecosystem and its inhabitants.
Rooms
Xigera has 12 suites, each with its own unique character and style. The suites are spacious and comfortable, with king-sized beds, en suite bathrooms, outdoor showers, dressing rooms, fireplaces, minibars and private decks. The suites are decorated with bespoke furniture and artworks by some of Africa’s most acclaimed designers and artists. The suites also have large windows and sliding doors that allow natural light and fresh air to fill the space. The Family Suite has two bedrooms and can accommodate up to six guests.
Food and drink
Xigera offers an interactive culinary experience, with an open kitchen-dining room where guests can watch the chefs prepare delicious dishes using fresh and local ingredients. The menu changes daily and reflects the seasons and the availability of produce. The cuisine is inspired by both African and international flavours and traditions, with an emphasis on quality and creativity. Guests can enjoy their meals in the dining room or on the outdoor deck overlooking the water. The lodge also has a bar with a world-class wine list and cellar showcasing the finest vintages from around the world. The bar is a cosy and convivial place to relax and socialise after a day of safari adventures.

Things to do
Xigera offers a range of activities to suit different interests and preferences. Guests can explore the delta by land or by water, depending on the water levels and the time of year. Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles with expert guides who can track and spot the wildlife. Boat trips are done in motorised boats that can navigate the deeper channels and islands. Walks are led by armed guides who can share their knowledge and insights on the flora and fauna. Mekoro rides are done in traditional dug-out canoes that glide silently through the shallow waters. All these activities offer an intimate and immersive way to experience the delta and its wonders.

A sleep-out in a human-sized woven ‘nest’ created by renowned South African artist Porky Hefer. The nest is suspended above the ground and offers a 360-degree view of the stars and the sounds of the night.
A visit to the Baobab Treehouse, a spectacular structure built around a giant baobab tree that serves as a lounge, a dining area and a viewing platform.
A helicopter flight over the delta, which gives a bird’s eye view of the landscape and the wildlife.
A cultural visit to a local village, where guests can interact with the local people and learn about their traditions and way of life.
Wider region
Xigera is situated in the western reaches of Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve, which covers almost a third of the Okavango Delta. The reserve is home to a diverse and abundant wildlife population, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles and over 400 species of birds. The reserve also boasts a variety of habitats, from dry woodlands and grasslands to wetlands and lagoons. The Okavango Delta is a unique and dynamic ecosystem that changes with the seasons and the annual flooding of the Okavango River. The delta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.
Kids
Xigera welcomes children of all ages and offers a family-friendly safari experience. The lodge has a dedicated kids’ programme that includes fun and educational activities such as bush walks, animal tracking, arts and crafts, games and storytelling. The lodge also provides child-friendly meals, babysitting services and special amenities such as cots, high chairs and toys.
Getting there
Xigera is accessible by air or by road. The nearest airstrip is Xigera Airstrip, which is about 15 minutes’ drive from the lodge. The airstrip is serviced by scheduled flights from Maun (about 25 minutes) and Kasane (about 1 hour). Alternatively, guests can drive to Xigera from Maun (about 4 hours) or Kasane (about 6 hours), depending on the road conditions and water levels. The lodge can arrange transfers from either option.
