Cempedak is a 17-hectare private island off the east coast of Bintan, Indonesia, about two and a half hours by ferry from Singapore. The island is part of the Riau Archipelago, a group of over 3,000 islands rich in biodiversity and cultural heritage. Cempedak is home hornbills, sea otters, dolphins, and turtles. Pangolins even live here.
Each of Cempedak’s 20 bamboo villas, made from recycled and sustainable natural materials, has its own plunge pool and sea view and the entire island is jaw dropping, with sugar white beaches and studded with magnificent white granite boulders. The resort has its own permaculture farm so dining on the island emphasises fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, with menus that highlight Indonesian and international flavours.
