Ol Malo Lodge is a stunning safari lodge that offers a unique and authentic experience of Kenya’s Northern Frontier District and the Laikipia Plateau. This is a place where you can immerse yourself in the wild beauty of the landscape, the rich culture of the Samburu people, and the abundant wildlife that roams freely on the 20,000-acre private ranch. Ol Malo Lodge is a family-run business that has been operating for over 30 years, and it reflects the passion and vision of its owners, who have created a home away from home for their guests¹.
The lodge has four luxurious thatched cottages, each with its own character and style. The cottages are built with natural materials, such as rock, wood and thatch, and blend in harmoniously with the environment. The cottages are spacious and comfortable, with four-poster beds, en-suite bathrooms, fireplaces and private verandas. The verandas offer spectacular views of the valley below, where you can watch the elephants, giraffes, zebras and other animals that come to drink at the waterhole. The cottages also have star beds, where you can sleep under the African sky and gaze at the stars.
The lodge has a range of facilities and activities that cater to every taste and interest. You can relax by the infinity pool, enjoy a drink at the bar, or browse the library and the curio shop. You can also indulge yourself at the spa, which offers massages and treatments using natural products. If you are feeling adventurous, you can explore the wilderness by horseback, mountain bike, foot or 4×4 vehicle. You can also visit the sunken hide, where you can get close to the elephants and other animals that come to drink at the waterhole. Or you can join a cultural visit to a nearby Samburu village, where you can learn about their traditions and way of life.
Ol Malo Lodge is more than just a luxury lodge; it is also a leader in sustainability and community involvement. The lodge works with Ol Malo Trust, a non-profit organization that supports various projects in education, health, water, wildlife and women empowerment². The lodge also employs and trains local staff, who provide excellent service and share their knowledge and culture with the guests. By staying at Ol Malo Lodge, you are contributing to the conservation and development of this area and its people.
The lodge is situated on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills National Park, between Amboseli and Tsavo West National Parks in southeast Kenya¹. This is one of the oldest volcanic ranges in Africa, and one of the most scenic and biodiverse regions in the country. The park is home to over 50 mammal species, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras and antelopes³. The park also has over 300 bird species, including eagles, vultures, hornbills and sunbirds³. The park is also known for its caves, which are formed by lava tubes and contain ancient rock paintings³.
Getting to Ol Malo Lodge is an adventure in itself. The lodge is only accessible by light aircraft or helicopter from Nairobi or other major airports in Kenya¹. The flight takes about an hour and offers stunning views of the landscape below. The lodge has its own airstrip, where you will be met by your guide and transferred to the property by 4×4 vehicle. The drive takes about 20 minutes and gives you a glimpse of the wildlife and scenery that await you.
The room rate at Ol Malo Lodge starts from $750 per person per night for a cottage¹. The rate includes all meals, drinks (except premium brands), activities (except helicopter rides), transfers from/to the airstrip, laundry service and conservation fees¹. The room capacity ranges from two to four people per cottage depending on the type of accommodation. The lodge welcomes children of all ages but does not have any special facilities for them. The lodge is not accessible for people with disabilities as there are no ramps or lifts available.
