Castara Retreats is located in Castara, a small fishing village on the north coast of Tobago. The village is known for its friendly and laid-back atmosphere, its golden sandy beach and its vibrant coral reef. The resort is surrounded by lush forest, hills and rivers that host some of the island’s most diverse flora and fauna. This family-run resort offers seven tropical hardwood accommodations that are built to the highest standards and are set right above Castara beach in lush tropical gardens. Backed by the deep green of the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere and framed by mango trees and bamboo, Castara Retreats invites you to enjoy a ‘living in the landscape’ experience in one of its treehouse-style, self-catering accommodations. Each is built in perfect synthesis with the natural surroundings and angled to absorb the glorious views of the Caribbean Sea.
Sustainability
Castara Retreats is committed to preserving the natural beauty and culture of Tobago. The resort uses solar power, rainwater harvesting and composting to minimise its environmental impact. The accommodations are constructed of red cedar, a local hardwood from sustainable sources, and are designed to maximise natural ventilation and light. The resort also supports the local community by employing staff from the village, sourcing food and supplies locally, and promoting cultural events and activities. The resort was built by local people using local materials and practices, and guests are invited to experience the authentic Caribbean lifestyle in harmony with nature.
Rooms
Each treehouse style accommodation at Castara Retreats is a spacious, self-catering lodge or apartment with ocean views and a private terrace. The living areas have comfortable sofas, dining tables and fully equipped kitchenettes with fridges, stoves, microwaves and coffee makers. The lodges and apartments are decorated with colourful fabrics, artworks and wooden furniture. Some have hammocks, outdoor showers or plunge pools.
