Unique or special aspects
Fregate Island is not just a resort, it’s a conservation sanctuary that is unique on this planet. The island has been restored and protected by a dedicated team of experts, who have successfully reintroduced endangered species, such as the Seychelles magpie robin, the giant tenebrionid beetle and the Wright’s gardenia. The island also boasts the largest population of Aldabra giant tortoises outside their native habitat, with over 3,000 roaming freely. Guests can get involved in various conservation activities, such as planting endemic trees, monitoring wildlife or tagging sea turtles. Fregate Island is also a haven for wellness, with a natural spa that uses only pure, local products and offers treatments based on traditional elements of earth, air, fire and water.
Fregate Island is located in the Indian Ocean, within the granitic group of the Seychelles archipelago. It’s the easternmost and most isolated of the granitic islands, which gives it a sense of exclusivity and privacy. The island covers an area of about 2.19 square kilometers (0.85 square miles) and has seven beaches, some of which are ranked among the most beautiful in the world. The island is surrounded by coral reefs that offer excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities. The island’s landscape is diverse and dramatic, with granite cliffs, tropical forests, mangroves and wetlands.
Fregate Island combines colonial architecture with casual elegance and modern comfort. The 16 villas are spacious and airy, with wooden floors, high ceilings and large windows that let in natural light and offer stunning views of the ocean. Each villa has a private infinity pool, a jacuzzi, a sun deck and an outdoor dining pavilion. The interior design is simple and elegant, with neutral tones and natural fabrics that blend with the environment. The villas are equipped with all the amenities one would expect from a five-star resort, such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, DVD player, iPod dock and Nespresso machine. The villas also have a personal assistant who can cater to every need and request.
