Jicaro Lodge is a hidden gem on one of the Isletas de Granada, a cluster of tiny islands on Lake Nicaragua. This eco-lodge offers nine cosy casitas, a pool, a spa, a restaurant and a bar, all surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and stunning views of the lake and the Mombacho Volcano. You’ll enjoy a peaceful and relaxing stay, with plenty of activities to explore the natural and cultural wonders of Nicaragua. Jicaro Lodge is also committed to sustainability and social responsibility, supporting the local community and environment.
Unique or special aspects
What makes Jicaro Lodge unique is its location on a private island, accessible only by boat from the colonial town of Granada. You’ll feel like you’re in your own paradise, away from the crowds and noise of the mainland. You’ll also appreciate the lodge’s eco-friendly design and practices, such as using solar power, recycling water, composting waste and planting trees. The lodge also works with local schools and health centres, providing education, health care and employment opportunities for the islanders.
Setting
Jicaro Lodge is located on Lake Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America and one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. The lake is home to hundreds of islands, some inhabited by local fishermen and farmers, some uninhabited and covered with wildlife. The lodge is situated on one of these islands, about 15 minutes by boat from Granada, the oldest city in Nicaragua and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lodge has a spectacular view of the Mombacho Volcano, an active stratovolcano that dominates the landscape.
Style
The lodge’s style is inspired by the traditional Nicaraguan architecture and craftsmanship, with a touch of modern comfort and luxury. The nine casitas are built with local wood and stone, and feature high ceilings, hardwood floors, king-size beds and spacious bathrooms. Each casita has its own deck with a hammock and a lake view, and some also have outdoor showers or plunge pools. The décor is simple but elegant, with natural fabrics, local artworks and fresh flowers. The lodge also has a main building with a restaurant, bar, lounge and library.
