The lodge was founded in 2012 in association with the people of Zikhone village, who are the direct beneficiaries of the tourism activity. The lodge also employs local staff, who are trained and certified by the lodge. Arakan Nature Lodge also supports various social and environmental projects, such as building schools, health centers and libraries, restoring mangroves and protecting wildlife.
Setting
Arakan Nature Lodge is located in the Gwa township of Rakhine State, on the west coast of Myanmar. The lodge is nestled on a 5-km long beach, facing the Bay of Bengal. The lodge is secluded and peaceful, yet only a 15-minute drive from Gwa town. The area is rich in natural and cultural diversity, home to various ethnic groups, such as Rakhine, Chin and Mro, as well as rare species, such as turtles, dolphins and hornbills.
Style
Arakan Nature Lodge blends rustic charm with modern comfort. The lodge offers five beach houses and two garden houses, built with local materials, such as recycled ironwood, bamboo and thatch. They are spacious and airy, with en-suite bathrooms, fans and balconies. The decor is simple and elegant, with colourful textiles and artworks made by the local women. The lodge also features a restaurant and bar, a lounge area with books and games, and a clay oven for baking bread.
Sustainability
Sustainability is at the core of Arakan Nature Lodge’s philosophy. The lodge follows ecological guidelines in its operations and lodges, such as using solar power for electricity and hot water, using composting toilets for sanitation, recycling kitchen and laundry wastewater for irrigation, using organic products and avoiding plastic bottles. The lodge also educates its guests and staff on environmental issues and best practices. The lodge also contributes to the conservation of the natural resources and biodiversity of the area, by supporting initiatives such as reforestation, wildlife monitoring and mangrove restoration.
Arakan Nature Lodge is not only an eco lodge, but also a social enterprise that empowers its local community. The lodge works in partnership with the people of Zikhone village, who own 50% of the shares of the lodge and receive a percentage of the profits. The lodge also provides employment and training opportunities for the local people, who work as staff, guides, cooks and artisans. The lodge also supports the development of the community by funding and implementing projects such as building schools, health centers, libraries and cultural centers.
Rooms
Arakan Nature Lodge offers five beach houses and two garden houses along the beach. Each house has a comfortable bed, a private bathroom with hot water, a fan and a balcony. The houses are decorated with colorful textiles and artworks made by the local women. The houses also have stunning views of the sea and the sunset. The houses are cleaned daily and have fresh drinking water.
Food and drink

Getting there
Arakan Nature Lodge is located about 15 minutes drive from Gwa town. You can get there by car or by shuttle service arranged by the lodge. If you’re flying from Yangon or other cities in Myanmar, you can take a flight to Thandwe airport, where the lodge will pick you up.
